Gordon Woods
Gordon Woods is one of the Brookvale 6. Gordon was one of the original board builders on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, and was always helping the young grommets out, or training someone to shape, glass and generally become board builders themselves.
Always a quality board, from a gentleman. I bought a 9’3″ brand new custom stringerless from Gordon and I think it cost me $93 just after decimal currency came in. My mates picked me and we headed to the Central Coast for some different waves and one of the guys was learning to drive. He was doing OK until we came down the hill in Terrigal heading towards the old Florida Hotel. He missed a gear and took a look down at the gear lever and bang hit a parked car bounced off and hit a car on the other side of the road. We tipped over onto the roof and my new board scraped blue resin all down the road. Never got in the water!!!!!!!!
I was devastated and it was my first new board. I took it back to Gordon and he said sorry mate it too far gone to repair but I tell you what I will make you another one for cost price and you can pay it off. Never forgot that and supported Gordon all through my surfing life.
These older generation guys were all pretty good and a lot of today’s board builders owe their careers to them.
